A huge constraction bag found on a beach in Manazuru
Illegal dumping of garbage on beaches has never stopped. There are so many garbages found on some beaches in Manazuru even though the beaches have been loved for its beauty. Many travellers and people who enjoy barbecue there seem not to care of leaving their garbages.
In the morning of June10th, about 10 staff of JR Manazuru station gathered in Kotogahama beach in Manazuru, and organized a beach cleanup. They tried to find garbages from many rocks and wave-dissipating blocks, and found many things, such as empty plastic bottles, shampoo containers and used syringes. Some staff collected even a huge construction bag that stinks.
The station staff began to organize a beach cleanup since September of 2020, and gather on the beaches 3 or 4 times every year for collecting garbages. One of the staff have ever found an empty bin that seems to be left more than 30 years ago and old store signs. So he guesses that garbages have been illegally dumped in Manazuru beaches since very long time ago. He was suprised and got speachless when he found strata made of garbage and soil.
According to Kanagawa Coastal Environmental Foundation, the total amount of garbage, that was collected on the beaches from Yugawara town until Yokosuka city and was proccessed in fiscal year 2021, was 1838 tons. Compared with fiscal year 2020, the amount of garbage that was collected from Manazuru beaches incleased 25.94 tons.
A staff of the Foundation said "I hope that people take their garbages after enjoying barbecue."
Beaches are never natural garbage cans.
