Odawara Opera presented "The Magic Flute" in Matsuda

On August 29, Odawara Opera, a group of opera singers from Odawara and other cities, held a performance of the opera "The Magic Flute" in Japanese at the Matsuda Town. On August 28, the group held a final rehearsal, inviting students from Elementary and Junior High Schools in Matsuda Town, and about 10 children enjoyed watching the rehearsal.

The group, led by Hiroyuki Iida, a baritone singer from Odawara, has been working to convey the appeal of opera to many people. This was the third performance of the group, and the first time they invited children from the local community to attend the ballet performance, saying, "I want them to have an authentic experience of watching opera."

The children who attended the performance commented that it was fun and that they would like to see it again, and some of them even said that they would like to participate in the performance next time. Some characters, especially"Pamina", the main character played by a soprano singer, and "the Queen of the Night" who sings difficult songs were popular.

Toru Ikeda, a tenor singer who performed at the event, said, "I think the audience enjoyed a space and time away from their daily lives in a local hall. In the future, Odawara Opera plans to present "Hansel and Gretel" in Minami Ashigara City in December 2021 and the comedy opera "Die Fledermaus" at Odawara San-no-Maru Hall in January 2022.
