Bunraku is a traditional puppet performance in Japan. A Bunraku group in Odawara, Shimonakaza, performs a traditional puppet show called "Sagami Ningyou Shibai" that is National Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Performers of Shimonakaza have practiced their new program "Nehan ni itta neko" meaning "The cat that went to Nirvana" now.
This program have been so popular in USA. For performing this program, members tried to not only mix Japanese traditional puppet perfomance with Jazz, but also change Japanese dialoge into English and add some English songs. Usually any cats don't appare in Bunraku, so puppet makers made a new puppet of a cat by spending 6 months.
A scriptwriter and a director haven't been able to come to Japan due to the impact of spreading newcorona virus, so Shimonakaza members have communicated with directors online and been practicing for their show beeing hold on February 27th in Yokohama and March 6th in Odawara.
